Description
What is Ayureveda?
Ayurveda, is an ancient and natural medicine system that originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda breaks down into two words, ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge) translating into “Knowledge of Life”. Ayurveda is based on the belief that disease is due to an imbalance or stress within a person’s body and mind. The means to restore this balance within the body, mind and spirit are natural remedies, therapies and lifestyles.
The unique mind-body type (doshas) and the concept of the force beyond all things (prakriti) are the primary cornerstones of ayurvedic medicine. Using herbs, specific diets, foods, natural therapies, meditation and yoga one is then able to eliminate impurities, reduce stress, strengthen resistance to disease, remove symptoms and increase harmony in life.
History
Ancient Ayurvedic works such as the Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita describe the medicinal properties of shilajit. The Charaka Samhita describes Shilajit as a solution for a plethora of diseases and illnesses as well as a Rasayana (rejuvenator) that increases longevity. This book, specifically dating back thousands of years explains how to prepare it, what herbs to mix it with and what it’s used for. Some of these texts even have spiritual references in regard to shilajit stating that it is a gift from the Hindu god, Shiva.
